Welcome to Lamb and Angel

This blog is dedicated to research done from September 2023 through September 2024 focusing on the story of Inez Briggs and how attitudes towards her monument represent broader cultural attitudes surrounding child mortality. New blog posts will be added monthly covering different facets of this topic. Occasionally, there will be supplemental posts about the general workings of cemeteries today. To support Lamb and Angel, please check out my social media profiles listed below, sign up for my newsletter, or add my blog to your RSS feed to be notified when I create new posts!

Offerings: A Year of Visitation to Inez Briggs

Inez Briggs is Graceland Cemetery and Arboretum’s most famous child. Encased in glass, her monument is visited and gifts are left for her regularly- but why, and what do these gifts say about contemporary cemetery visitors?

On Saturday, 28 September 2024, I debuted my research on Inez Briggs and the items left at her monument alongside DePaul professor Dr. Jane Eva Baxter. A selection of these gifts will be on display in Graceland’s office until the end of 2024.
